West Ryde Performance Mechanic: European Car Tuning Specialist Sydney

Quick Answer: West Ryde Service Centre is an independent European car performance workshop at 1135 Victoria Road, West Ryde. We do ECU remapping, dyno tuning, brake upgrades and suspension setup for Audi, BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, VW and Lexus — using the same diagnostic gear as the dealerships but at 30-50% less. We’ve been at it for over 45 years. Phone (02) 9874 7684.

We’ve been working on European cars at our Victoria Road workshop since 1981. Back then it was carburettors and contact breakers — now it’s ECU remapping and dyno tuning, but the principle hasn’t changed: do the job properly, use the right parts, and don’t charge dealership prices for it.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably got an Audi RS, a BMW M, a Mercedes-AMG or a Porsche that you want to get more out of. Maybe you’re after a Stage 1 remap for your daily driver. Maybe you’re building a track car. Either way, here’s what we do and how we do it.

What Performance Work Do We Do?

⚡

ECU Remapping

Stage 1, 2 and 3 remaps for Audi (2.0 TFSI, 2.5 TFSI, 3.0 TFSI), BMW (B48, B58, S55, S58), Mercedes-AMG (M139, M177), VW (EA888) and Porsche. Every tune is dyno-tested before and after.

📊

Dyno Tuning

We measure real wheel power and torque, not just flash a generic map. You get a before-and-after printout showing exactly what your money bought. No guesswork.

🔧

Performance Brakes

Upgraded pads, rotors and fluid for track and street. Brembo big brake kits, OEM+ pad upgrades, braided lines — all fitted and bedded in properly.

♻

Suspension Setup

Coilovers, lowering springs, upgraded shocks. We set up your car for street, fast road or track — with proper alignment and corner balancing.

💨

Performance Exhaust

Cat-back and downpipe upgrades for BMW M, Audi RS, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. Better flow, better sound, properly fitted.

🏁

Track Preparation

Full track day prep — brake fluid and pads, suspension setup, tyre advice, safety checks. We’ll make sure your car is ready for Eastern Creek or Wakefield Park.

Which Cars Do We Tune?

We work on all the major European performance brands. The table below shows what we commonly see come through the workshop and the sort of gains you can expect. These are real-world ranges from cars we’ve actually tuned — not marketing figures.

Brand Models We See Most Engines Stage 1 Stage 2
Audi RS3, RS4, RS5, S3, S4 2.5 TFSI, 3.0 TFSI, 2.0 TFSI +30-50 kW +60-100 kW
BMW M2, M3, M4, M5, 340i, 440i B48, B58, S55, S58, S63 +35-55 kW +70-120 kW
Mercedes-AMG A45, C43, C63, E63, GLE63 M139, M152, M177, M157 +40-60 kW +80-130 kW
Porsche 718 Cayman, 911, Macan S/GTS Flat-4, Flat-6, 2.0L turbo +25-40 kW +50-80 kW
VW Golf R, Golf GTI, Tiguan R EA888 Gen 3/4 +30-45 kW +55-85 kW
Lexus IS F Sport, RC F, GS F 2.0L turbo, 5.0L V8 +20-35 kW +40-60 kW

These are real gains we’ve measured on our dyno. Your results depend on fuel quality, vehicle condition and supporting mods. We always show you the before-and-after numbers.

Why Not Just Go to the Dealer?

Look, dealerships do a fine job of standard servicing. But they won’t tune your car. They can’t — the factory software doesn’t allow it, and their techs aren’t trained for it. If you want anything beyond stock specs — a remap, coilovers, bigger brakes, a track setup — you need an independent specialist.

What We Do That Dealers Won’t

ECU remapping, dyno tuning, performance exhaust, coilover installation, track prep, brake upgrades, suspension setup, DSG/PDK tuning.

Same Diagnostic Equipment

We run VCDS for Audi/VW, ISTA for BMW, XENTRY for Mercedes, PIWIS for Porsche — the exact same tools the dealers use. We just do more with them.

30-50% Cheaper

No dealership overhead. We pass the saving on. Same genuine or equivalent parts, same procedures, half the labour rate.

How Our Performance Process Works

When you bring your car in, we don’t just flash a tune and send you on your way. Here’s what happens:

1

Baseline Diagnostic

We plug in the same diagnostic tools the dealer uses — VCDS, ISTA, XENTRY, PIWIS — and check for any existing fault codes. If your car has underlying issues, we flag them before tuning. No point tuning a car with a dodgy coil pack.

2

Dyno Baseline

For tuning jobs, we put your car on the dyno first to measure what it’s actually making at the wheels. This is your baseline — the number we need to beat.

3

Have a Chat

We sit down and talk through what you want from the car. Daily driver improvement? Weekend toy? Track day weapon? The right tune depends on how you use the car, and we’ll give you honest advice — even if that means less spend with us.

4

The Work

Remap, brake upgrade, suspension install — whatever you’re booked in for. All work done by experienced techs using proper parts and procedures.

5

Dyno Verification

After tuning, back on the dyno. You get a before-and-after comparison showing the actual power gain. No guessing, no “it feels faster” — real numbers on paper.

6

Road Test and Handover

Every car gets a road test after performance work. We explain what we did, what to expect, and what to keep an eye on. You drive away knowing exactly what’s been done.

What Does It Cost?

Here’s what you can expect to pay for performance work at our West Ryde workshop. These are real price ranges — we’ll give you an exact quote before we start.

Software-only remap, dyno-tested before and after. No hardware changes needed.
Stage 2 Remap + Hardware
$2,000-$4,000

Not sure what you need? Give us a call on (02) 9874 7684 and tell us what you’re driving and what you want from it. We’ll give you straight advice — no upsell, no pressure. If a Stage 1 is all you need, that’s all we’ll recommend.

Where Are We?

We’re at 1135 Victoria Road, West Ryde — right on the main drag. If you’re coming from Ryde or Gladesville, we’re two minutes down the road. From Epping or Eastwood, you’re looking at 5-10 minutes.

If you’re coming from Macquarie Park or North Ryde, jump on Victoria Road heading west and we’re on your left. From Hunters Hill or Lane Cove, come via Lane Cove Road. The Parramatta and Chatswood run is about 20 minutes via the M2.

Drop the car off at 7:30am, pick it up at 5:30pm. We’ve got free loan cars if you need to get to work — just book ahead so we can put one aside for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ECU remapping safe for my daily driver?

Yes — when it’s done properly by someone who knows your engine. A Stage 1 remap works within the manufacturer’s safe limits. We don’t push timing or boost to the edge — we tune for reliability and drivability, not just peak numbers. We always dyno-test before and after so you can see the actual gain, and we check for any issues before we start.

Will tuning void my warranty?

Under Australian Consumer Law, a dealer can’t void your entire warranty just because you’ve had independent work done. But if a specific modification causes a specific failure — say, an aggressive tune causes a turbo failure — they may refuse to cover that particular repair. We discuss this with you before any work, and can provide conservative Stage 1 maps that are very hard to detect.

Where in Sydney are you located?

1135 Victoria Road, West Ryde NSW 2114. Right on Victoria Road — you can see the workshop from the road. Two minutes from Ryde, five minutes from Gladesville or Epping. Phone (02) 9874 7684.

Do you work on all European performance cars?

We specialise in Audi S/RS, BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, VW Golf R/GTI and Lexus F Sport. We’ve got the right diagnostic gear for all of them — VCDS for Audi and VW, ISTA for BMW, XENTRY for Mercedes, PIWIS for Porsche. If you’re not sure whether we can help, just call.

How long does a Stage 1 remap take?

Usually 2-4 hours — diagnostic scan, dyno baseline, the remap itself, then a post-tune dyno run to verify the gains. We can normally book you in within a week of your call.

Can you service my car as well as tune it?

That’s most of what we do, actually. We’ve been servicing European cars in Sydney for over 45 years — logbook servicing, diagnostics, the lot. Most of our performance customers use us for their regular servicing too. We already know the car, so there’s no learning curve every time it comes in.

Do you offer loan cars?

Yes, free loan cars while your car’s in the workshop. Handy for performance work that takes a full day. Just let us know when you book so we can put one aside.
